Prozessor
The processor is the technical partner of the issuer bank or the acquirer. The processor ensures that the transactions are processed technically. As a rule, the processor operates the network and is the instance to which the payment service providers are technically connected. While issuers and acquirers tend to be involved in legal and commercial matters, the processor is responsible for the technical side.
Front-End and Back-End
The processor is contracted by a merchant to process transactions from various channels such as credit cards and debit cards for the merchant acquiring bank. They are usually divided into two types: Front-end and back-end. Front-end processors deliver authorization and settlement services to various card associations and to merchant acquiring banks. Back-end processors are responsible for settling the front-end processors and forwarding the money from the card-issuing bank to the merchant bank.
Fraud prevention
The processor checks the received data by forwarding it to the respective card-issuing bank or card association for verification. Further checks follow, such as PSC Plausibility (identify formal & logical errors) or Scoring (evaluate data & recommend action).
