Internet Protocol Address
The term stands for Internet Protocol Address (IP) and refers to a unique binary number in a computer network that is used to identify and address connected devices (PCs, servers) during the transmission of data. Using the IP address, network devices that send information on behalf of the sender can determine to which connected device the information should be sent next and whether the receiving device is the intended target device.
The history
The first conception of the Internet was to connect networks. For this purpose, the data networks had fixed identification numbers with which they could be specifically addressed. In this early version of the Internet protocol, there were separate fields for network addresses and host addresses. The IPv4 protocol, which was introduced in 1981, eliminated this separation by using more complex routing methods.
