Card verification number
For Visa, MasterCard and Diners Club, the Card Verification Value (CVV) consists of the last three digits on the back of your credit card at or immediately to the right of the signature field. For American Express, the card preüf number is located on the front of the card and has 4 digits. JCB does not have a card verification number.
Other designations
The Card Validation Code (CVC) (also Card Verification Value (CVV), Card Verification Number (CVN), Card Security Code (CSC), Card Code Verification (CCV), Card Prüfnummer (KPN)). The CVC may only be queried, but not stored and processed. The card verification number is not machine-readable because it is only printed on the credit card and not embossed like the credit card number. This ensures that it must be queried again for each transaction.
Why do you need the test number
CVC2 is the format currently in use. It is not possible to infer the card number because there is no mathematical relationship to the card number. It can therefore only be verified by the issuing credit institution and is therefore an important security feature.
