Universal Mobile Telecommunications System
Standardized 3rd generation broadband mobile radio system for the transmission of text, digital voice, video and multimedia.

UMTS has expanded the multimedia services through the higher transmission rate. These include:

- Navigation
- Process Management
- Banking services, e-commerce
- Interactive television
Multiple data streams
UMTS was introduced in several phases. The first release in 1999, had a new radio access technology Wideband CDMA and replaced GSM with it. This technology made it possible to achieve higher transmission rates, which are required for the transmission of multimedia content. With multiple data streams, it is now possible to perform several actions simultaneously.
