Security plays a major role in online banking. For this reason, card readers are divided into security classes, class 1, 2 and 3.
Class 1 is the lowest security level of card readers. Class 1 devices are used only for communication with the chip of the corresponding cash card.
Readers with security class 2 have a keyboard on which the user can enter his PIN. The PIN is transmitted directly to the card "without a detour via the PC", thus preventing phishing attempts.
Class 3 devices have, in addition to the keypad, a display and a module that verifies the transaction. During the payment, the display shows the payee and the amount. The user can thus check the information and confirm or cancel the transaction at the touch of a button.
