HyperText Transfer Protocol over Secure Socket Layer
HTTPS (HyperText Transfer Protocol over Secure Socket Layer) is a web protocol that encrypts page requests from the web user and decrypts the web pages returned by the web server. HTTPS stands for Hypertext Transfer Protocol Secure and is a secure HTTP connection between computers. It is generally used to transfer confidential information such as payments over the Internet.
Netscape
Netscape developed HTTPS with SSL in 1994 for their browser Netscape Navigator at that time. The encryption of data transmitted over the Internet is necessary because without encryption the data can be read as plain text by anyone. With the increasing spread of unencrypted WLANs, the importance of HTTPS is growing, since the security of content to be transmitted can only be guaranteed by the security protocol.
The digital certificate
The digital certificate (binary document) for SSL enables the unique identification of the domain and is provided by the server. It is requested from a CA certificate authority, which issues the certificate for the requested domain after verification.
