The discount is a type of fee for the services of the payment provider. The discount is calculated from the cleared turnover of credit cards or direct debits. As a result of Regulation (EU) 2015/751 of the European Parliament and of the Council of April 29, 2015 on interchange fees for card-based payment transactions, the discount ("merchant fee") has been limited since 2015 to 0.2% of net sales for debit cards and 0.3% for credit cards.
The discount is regulated quite differently by payment providers. There are various billing models here, such as a set-up fee, monthly fee or transaction fee, and there are also various mixed forms. Here, the turnover and also the amount and number of transactions must be taken into account. Therefore, individual offers must always be made. The supposedly cheapest provider is not always the best.
By bundling payment methods, the payment provider, such as CommDoo GmbH, can respond flexibly to the customer's wishes. A store retailer, for example, has completely different requirements than a streaming service that prefers the subscription model. Clear price structuring is a must here in order to achieve optimal sales targets.
