Debit cards are cards that can only be managed on a credit basis. This credit balance can be disposed of and is understood to correspond most closely to the EC card of German banks. A debit card is the Visa Electron. When paying by debit card, the end user is debited directly, whereas with a credit card there is a monthly collective listing, which is then debited as a total amount to the current account.
The Eurocheque card was issued in Europe from 1968. It was initially intended as a guarantee card for euro checks to be cashed. In the USA, the ATM card was issued in the 1970s and was already intended for ATM use. Based on these two types of cards, a wide range of debit cards with prompt debiting from the checking/cheque account was developed.
