When several end customers cause a chargeback, chargebacks occur. These are a very unpleasant matter for all parties involved, as they cost money and effort. The retailer must essentially ensure that the number of chargebacks is as low as possible or, better still, that no chargebacks occur.
A so-called chargeback quota is calculated from the number of chargebacks in relation to the transactions/turnovers made. If this quota is exceeded once, the account on the Visa/Mastercard side will be closed. This is associated with considerable penalties. How high a quota may be, is not officially announced. The same applies to the basis for calculating the quotas. If the account is closed, you will automatically be placed on a watch list with Visa/Mastercard.
It is therefore extremely important for store operators to reduce their chargeback quota. The use of fraud prevention measures is crucial here. The 3D Secure process developed by Visa and MasterCard can significantly reduce the chargeback quota.
